Why starch is used in Natural Deodorant | Ingredient Profiles | Arrowroot Starch + Tapioca Starch

I have been reading a lot about natural deodorant lately. While I have been making and selling our Original formula since 2013, the market is just now starting to take notice of aluminum-free deodorant.

There are hundreds of recipes and formulas you can buy, but you need to understand the reason for ingredients.

No matter if you are making your own or just looking to buy, understanding the ingredients will help you make the right choice for yourself and your family.

The ingredient at hand is starch. We use Organic Arrowroot and Tapioca starches in Bear's Beauty Natural Deodorant. That being said, the structure of all starches is similar. Sourcing matters when it comes to things like pesticide use and contamination, but from a formulation standpoint there is not a big difference between corn starch and potato or arrowroot.

Starch in a natural deodorant recipe acts as an absorbent, drawing moisture to it. It does not reduce odor, fight bacteria, or any host of other claims made by companies who don't understand their formula. no shade, but I find education beyond important.

Starch gives the deodorant a silky finish and smooth application on your skin without being too oily, if you are using an oil base.
